Along with millions of people in the UK, Sport Relief was observed Sunday 25 March at the British High Commissioner’s residence of Ben Mar. Members of the British community and colleagues from other diplomatic missions in Barbados ran a Mile (four laps around the Garden, youngsters kept running, LOL), there were other sporting events such as football target and road tennis.
In a separate item, Bajan Reporter will show a video which captured a demonstration of the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira, it was very exhausting and ravenous so supporters were glad the event featured a traditional British afternoon tea of salmon sandwiches, cookies and also mauby to wash down the well-earned sweat.
Sport Relief is a biennial charity event which brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money to help vulnerable people in both the UK and the world’s poorest countries. At the heart of the campaign is the Sport Relief Mile.
The fundraising event is in aid of the Paralympic Association of Barbados and the Barbados Special Olympics. Wesley Worrell and Thelma Brathwaite of the two organisations delivered prizes to worthy participants, since specially invited members of the Special Olympics squad took part in the Mile.
