Children of St. Lucia can now enjoy Chee Chee, the rambunctious monkey who takes his human friends on magical journeys in the Caribbean Adventure Series of books written by Carol Ottley-Mitchell.

Mitchell announced recently that the books are now available at Sunshine Book Store in the Gablewoods Mall in Castries.

The series, which was launched in 2008, follows the adventures of three children, Mark, Ingrid, and Kyle as they follow Mark’s pet monkey Chee Chee around the Caribbean. Aimed at children 7-10, the books have been likened to books by Enid Blyton, but offer Caribbean kids the opportunity to recognize themselves in, and truly relate to, the books.

There are three books in the series; the first Adventure at Brimstone Hill is set in St. Kitts, the home country of author Carol Ottley-Mitchell. In a recent review of Adventure at Brimstone Hill, St. Lucian Nahdjla Carasco Bailey, author of Time for Poetry and Telling Tales from Saint Lucia hailed the book as “well-plotted”, “worthwhile and appealing to its target readership of young persons.”

The second book, Pirates at Port Royal, is based in Jamaica and the third, Trapped in Dunston’s Cave, released just two months ago, is based in Trinidad.

Carol expressed her excitement at having the book released in St. Lucia. “I first fell in love with the island of St. Lucia when I visited as part of a debating team in 1986. I consider it to be one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean and a special home for our family because my husband is St. Lucian. There definitely will be a St. Lucian edition of the series in the near future.”

The book is available at Sunshine Book Store in the Gablewoods Mall in Castries and can also be purchased online from amazon.com or www.caribbeanadventureseries.com.
