The Caribbean Music Foundation Launches Global Plan for Caribbean Music

Chief Executive Officer of the CMAFI, Teneille Doyle

The stars have aligned today with the Official Launch of the Caribbean Music Awards Foundation Inc (CMAFI) and its timely platform to further bring Caribbean music to the global community.

Launched through an all day radio broadcast on the new Caribbean Super Station, the CMAFI is the umbrella body of the Caribbean Music Academy, The Caribbean Music Awards, and Caribbean Music Week – a platform through which achievements in the regional music and recording arts will be honored and the development of the Caribbean music industry is supported through national and regional music-based programs to help in creating solid and unified business structures that efficiently and effectively support the Caribbean’s rich and unique talent and creative pool.

The Caribbean Music Academy, Caribbean Music Awards and Caribbean Music Week all serve specific purposes. The Music Academy is a membership based association for music industry creative, technical and business professionals dedicated to facilitating networking opportunities, training, education, internship and exchange programs and technical support. The Academy announced that it will jump-start 2012 with a series of music education workshops starting in February in over eight (8) territories. These workshops are being facilitated by local and international cultural and music based organizations and will feature the Who’s Who of today’s music industry.

Caribbean Music Week is slated to be the region’s ultimate music networking platform where artists, stakeholders and music industry professionals can share, celebrate, debate, promote and market their products and services. The week of activities will feature conference-style panels and workshops featuring top notch speakers and participants from around the world, music showcases and a major trade show and exhibit.

The week is set to climax with the staging of the Caribbean Music Awards, dubbed “the Mecca of all nights celebrating Caribbean music”, an annual red carpet affair that celebrates and honors the achievements of the artists, producers and stakeholders who have contributed to the success of all styles and genres of music in the Caribbean.

In announcing the initiatives Chief Executive Officer of the CMAFI, Teneille Doyle thanked a number of public and private sector companies and individuals for pledging their support.

To realize the full potential and value of these initiatives we need the support of local, national and regional stakeholders. First and foremost I want to thank the entire CMFAI team who has worked hard within the past year to develop each initiative and of course our media partners the Caribbean Super Station and Caribvision for their tremendous support. We also want to thank some regional organizations who have already been forthcoming such as COTT, JACAP and ECCO and JetBlue Airways for their sponsorship support”, she said.

Also on hand to launch the initiative was Veoma Ali, Regional Advertising Manager of the OCM Network who lauded the CMAFI team for their work and vision for Caribbean music.

“The Caribbean Super Station is absolutely thrilled that this initiative has been birthed. We fully support the effort to expose and promote Caribbean music, culture and flavour and are proud to be the exclusive radio partner into 2012. Congrats are in order to Miss Doyle and her team and we are certain that with this project, more people across our Region will become aware of the phenomenal amount of superb talent – across all genres – that exists within our Caribbean”, said Ms. Ali.

The CMAFI also disclosed that they have already been receiving an incredible level of support from the local music community and have fielded request from as far south as Belize and from Caribbean people living in Canada and Europe and encouraged persons to logon to their websites and for more info and to contact them.

“We have been receiving request from all around the Caribbean. This in itself has proven to us that we are on the right track in supporting the needs of the community and that music is a true passion point of our people. We anticipate that individuals and companies would be forthcoming and we hope to have continued dialogue within the next months and into the 1st quarter of 2012 to share our plans and get their input on how best we can work together to meet the needs of the regional music community and integrate our businesses and brands”, Doyle added.
