TeleBarbados will provide bandwidth to allow for live streaming of NACRA Rugby Sevens Championships
TeleBarbados, the preferred telecommunications service provider in Barbados for premium internet, voice, and data services, is helping to promote Barbados with its sponsorship of the 2011 DHL NACRA Sevens Rugby Championships.
Being held at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday November 12 and Sunday November 13, 2011 from 8 a.m. till dark each day, the annual 7 a side tournament this year features 27 teams representing 17 countries with entries from Barbados, the region and further abroad competing in 15 minute matches for the title of NACRA Sevens Champions.
This year TeleBarbados has come on board to bring an interesting and exciting addition to the tournament by providing the platform to allow for the live streaming of matches over the internet, thus bringing this rapidly growing tournament into the homes of local, regional, and international rugby enthusiasts.
Joseph Herdé, Vice President Sales & Marketing at TeleBarbados, said the decision to come on board was an easy one, given the chance for TeleBarbados to play a pivotal role in promoting Barbados across the globe:
“When the opportunity presented itself we quickly jumped at it as we saw this as a chance to get involved in the continued efforts to promote Barbados abroad, particularly as a destination for sports tourism. We also saw it as a chance to showcase TeleBarbados’ reliable telecommunications infrastructure, as well as the advanced state of communications technology in Barbados.”
The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) and the local Tourism Development Corporation (TDC) are also partnering with DHL in putting on this annual tournament, which has been held since 2006. These entities are this year hosting professional Rugby Sevens journalist, Nick Jordan from New Zealand to provide commentary and develop a series of special interest segments on Barbados.
TeleBarbados will be providing a free dedicated, 1Mb DIA, full duplex Internet connection for the streaming over the two days, being carried out by local multi-media firm, Creative Junction, in addition to a small Wi-Fi hot spot (1Mb/256k) to provide basic Internet connection at the venue.
