Personal Finance And Tax Savings To Be Discussed At Fortress Fund Managers Investment Forum
With uncertainty still surrounding the state of the global economy, securing one’s personal finances must be viewed as a priority for all. With this in mind, Fortress Fund Managers Barbados’ leading manager of mutual funds, will be focusing on this topic when it hosts its second annual “Fortress Investment Forum” this Saturday, November 12, 2011.
Being held at the Frank Collymore Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., this event is once again open to all Fortress clients, in addition to other interested members of the public.
The forum’s featured presentation will be delivered by Valerie Coleman Morris, an Emmy award winning journalist and the former Business Anchor for CNN domestic and international, who will be addressing the topic “Securing Your Financial Future in Challenging Times”.
A correspondent for CNN Business News, Mrs. Coleman Morris also anchored CNN Headline News’ personal finance segment, “Smart Assets”, which focused on those areas consumers need to understand to make sound financial planning decisions. Her book, “It’s Your Money So Take It Personally“® will be published later this year.
In keeping with the theme of personal finance and protecting one’s future, members of the Fortress investment team will be on hand to provide valuable information on the range of Funds they currently manage, with particular attention being paid to the company’s Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP).
Since Government’s removal of the Mutual Fund tax allowance, which encouraged a number of Barbadians to invest in such products, individuals have looked towards Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP) – government registered “umbrella” accounts designed to hold mutual fund investments now and provide regular income after retirement – as a means of maintaining these tax benefits, with contributions of up to $10,000 per year earning a tax allowance.
Fortress operates an innovative, low cost RRSP with flexible investment options allowing the owner to choose how best his/her contributions are to be invested. Options available include combinations of the Fortress Caribbean Growth Fund (Equities) and Fortress Caribbean High Interest Fund (Bonds) both well managed funds with a history of positive performance, generating annual compound returns of 11.3% and 6.0% since inception in 1996 and 2002 respectively.
Roger Cave, Investment Director with Fortress Fund Managers Limited, said the forum is a perfect opportunity for the forward looking Barbadian to learn more about securing their financial future:
“With the global economy still in turmoil it is important for every individual to take responsibility for their financial future, particularly their retirement. This forum is meant to give Barbadians an understanding of the importance of planning for their latter years, and we are pleased to have Mrs. Coleman Morris as our featured speaker.”
Also making a presentation at this Saturday’s forum will be Wayne Dass, CEO of CariCRIS Limited, the Caribbean’s regional credit rating agency, who will speak on the topic “Sharks in the Water: Assessing the Risks in Caribbean and Global Bonds“.
