The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Interior & Police has announced the elimination of the restrictions on selling alcoholic beverages for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Musical bands in Santo Domingo say if booze is allowed during Twelve Days then they can ply their trade – or is it that people will be too drunk to know if they're off key?

There will be no limitations on opening hours or alcoholic beverage sales from 20 December 2011 to 8 January 2012.

The Ministry says that the lifting of the curfew will enable musical groups to fully provide their services.
