Recognising Excellent Technical Knowledge and Innovative Use of Oracle Data Warehouse Technologies

Digicel Haiti’s IT Operations team received the Oracle Data Warehouse Leader of the Year award during Oracle OpenWorld 2011 in San Francisco recently.

The award honours individuals across Asia Pacific, Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Africa and North America who demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and innovative use of Oracle data warehouse technologies to the benefit of their business.

This award is one of several award categories covered by the Oracle Excellence Awards.

The IT operations team is responsible for Digicel Haiti’s data warehouse system which is used to analyse Call Data Records (CDR’s) and generate reports to give deeper insights into subscriber behaviour and potential subscribers.

To support Digicel’s growth in subscribers, the team led the migration from its previous environment to a half-rack Oracle Exodata Database Machine X2-2 in July 2011.

Analysis and report performance has improved across the board, generating reports 16 times faster than previous systems. Daily reports are now processed and delivered each morning to assist the business in strengthening and refining its sales strategies and campaigns. This quicker and more precise reporting system allows Digicel to deliver even better value and service to customers across Haiti by meeting customers’ needs through tailored promotions and offers.

Digicel Haiti’s Head of IT, Marwan Salman, said; “I am thrilled to accept this award on behalf of the entire Digicel Haiti IT team. Since July, we have worked to ensure the transition to our new data warehouse management services is seamless and we would like to thank Oracle for its guidance and assistance throughout.”
