Melvin Nolan Cumberbatch, 39 years, of Hopewell, St. Andrew, was arrested and charged on today’s date Wednesday 5th October 2011, for the following offences:

1. Possession;
2. Possession with intent to supply;
3. Trafficking and
4. Importation of 17.87 kgs.

These offences were committed at the Bridgetown Port.

On Tuesday 4th October 2011, personnel of the Customs Enforcement carried out an operation at the Bridgetown Port where a consignment of coal contained 3 polythene bags with vegetable matter on board a motor vessel which was subsequently searched, and the contraband discovered.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Melvin Cumberbatch. He is expected to appear at the District A Magistrate Court on Thursday 6th October 2011.
