100,000 Russians in Santo Domingo for 2011: Why is Brazil not as successful with Barbados?

Some 100,000 Russian tourists are forecast to visit the DR this year, up from 76,000 in 2010. Indeed, travel from Russia is up 71% this year.

The Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia announced this year through July, Punta Cana had received 230 flights from Russia, as reported in Listin Diario.

Participating in the XVII International Leisure Fair in Moscow, Deputy Minister Magaly Toribio announced the start of 31 new charter flights from Russia on Orinair from Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk to Punta Cana. The flights begin 5 November and will be marketed by the tour operator Pegas.

Aerosvit from Kiev is also adding new flights to Punta Cana. This is an addition to the Aeroflot and Transaero flights to Punta Cana.

Toribio announced that Russian airlines would also fly to Puerto Plata starting early 2012. The trade show took place in Crocus City complex and was coordinated by Galyna Lysenko, director of the Tourism Promotion Office in Russia.
