Barbadian wins prestigious UK Chevening scholarship

The Chevening scholarship programme for 2012-2013 will be opening in the autumn. Keep an eye on the British High Commission website -

Mohammed Degia, Senior Foreign Service Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has won one of three prestigious UK Chevening scholarships for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean awarded for the academic year 2011-2012. He will be joined by Vincentian scholarship winner Jason Haynes at a reception given in their honour by British High Commissioner Paul Brummell on Monday 5 September.

Mohammed is undertaking postgraduate studies in International Relations at the University of Durham and Jason, who recently graduated from UWI, will be studying for an LLM in Law at the University of Nottingham. The third Chevening scholar, Sonia Rosita Boddie from St Kitts and Nevis will be studying for a Masters in Public Administration at the University of Birmingham.

In addition, a number of students bound for the UK will be attending the reception, as well as a briefing on living and studying in the UK beforehand. Youth leaders, government Ministers and officials are among those invited to attend.
