Popular Fete Organisers for Barbados Crop Over Season Make Donation To HIV/AIDS Food Bank
Chivas Regal, a premium whisky brand distributed by Mount Gay Distilleries Limited, is playing an active role for Crop Over 2011 by supporting the community efforts of several groups. One such partnership is with “Wadadah“, who recently made a presentation to the National HIV/AIDS Food Bank.
Very recently, “Wadadah” Chivas Regal Ambassadors delivered a variety of canned and dry goods, along with toiletries and other much needed items to the Food Bank, following a food drive held at one of their recent Crop Over events.
The donation is part of the ongoing collaboration between Chivas Regal and “Wadadah” under the theme “Community Love for Crop Over 2011”, where community efforts being carried out by the Chivas Regal Ambassadors are fulfilling Chivas Regal’s and Wadadah’s push to become more active within the local community by providing assistance to the less fortunate.
Food Bank Manager, Donna Barker, said the donation has come at a time of the year when supplies are usually at their lowest:
“The Summer months are usually the leanest for the Food Bank with donations coming in very slowly as compared to other times of the year, for example Christmas. This makes it hard for us to meet the needs of those who depend on us daily for nourishment, and therefore makes this donation even more valuable at this time. I commend “Wadadah” and Chivas Regal for recognizing the importance of our existence and the need for constant support.”
Assistant Secretary Treasurer of the “Wadadah” Group, Gregory Gaskin, said the decision to make a donation to the food bank was an easy one, and certainly would not be the last:
“In looking around for a deserving charity we made a call to the Food Bank, only to discover they were essentially empty. This we saw as unacceptable and immediately put measures in place to set up a food drive aimed at righting this wrong. This is not the first time we are supporting the Food Bank, and it will certainly not be the last, as at the end of the Crop Over season we intend to make another donation to this all important organization. We wish to thank Chivas Regal for the assistance they have provided us throughout the season, and look forward to a continued relationship in the future.”
Brand Manager for Chivas Regal at Mount Gay Distilleries Limited, Carla Jackson, said the partnership is aimed at seeking out those causes which are often neglected:
“Far too often those causes which require the greatest level of assistance are the ones which are most neglected, and by working with “Wadadah”, Chivas Regal intends to shed more light on these, with the hope of galvanizing more support from the wider public.”
Chivas Regal and “Wadadah” will be engaged in a number of community efforts across the island which will focus on various areas such as health, poverty, and general well-being.
