A leading stalwart of the local technology sector in Barbados, John Gibbs will be entered into the Hall of Fame by the Information Society of Barbados.

John is being honored for his contribution to the development of ICT in Barbados, having worked on many early computerization projects in Barbados including the first computerisation of the Central Banks of Barbados and Belize, and the computerisation of the National Insurance Schemes of St. Lucia, St Vincent, St Kitts, Guyana, Dominica and Barbados.

He was also responsible for the first general purpose IT payroll in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and most recently through his company, Axses Caribbean has been innovating in the online environment with www.barbados.org, www.whatsonbarbados.com and ARC Res to locally developed hotel reservation system.

Previous recipients of this award were former Ambassador to Brussels and now Deputy Governor WIPO, Trevor Clarke and Dr. DeLisle Worrell, Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados.

The awards ceremony takes place at the Accra Beach Hotel on July 12th at 7pm., with Senator Haynesley Benn, Minister of Commerce and Trade as the featured speaker.

The Information Society of Barbados, launched in May 1992, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the continued education of persons interested in and working with Information Communication Technology in Barbados.

This year’s award coincides with a major conference being hosted by the ISB entitled @Event Caribbean 2011: Conference & Exhibition – ICT A Catalyst for Economic Development, October 24-26th.
