Preliminary Judging in the Jr. Calypso Monarch of Barbados now Completed: Semi-Finalists will appear at the Junior Tents on June 19 at the Alexandra School

All Semi-Finalists will appear at the Junior Tents on June 19 at the Alexandra School and June 26 at the Christ Church Parish Centre, before the Semi-Finals at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on July 10, 2011. All shows start at 6:00 pm.

Contestants in the 2011 Junior Calypso Monarch Competition went through their preliminary session on Saturday, May 28th when they faced the judges to determine who would advance to the Semi-finals on Sunday, July 10th at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

This year there were twenty two entrants in the 8 – 12 Age Category of which twelve (12) Juniors advanced with 2 reserves and twenty five entrants in the 13 – 18 Age Category of which (12) twelve Juniors also advanced with 1 reserve.

To give the young competitors exposure ahead of the Semi-finals, the first of the Junior Calypso Monarch Tents will be held on Sunday, June 19th at the Alexandra School in St. Peter and the second on Sunday, June 26 at the Christ Church Parish Centre, each beginning at 6 p.m. There will also be the Free Lunchtime Concert held at the Frank Collymore Hall on Wednesday, July 20.

Prior to Saturday’s judging, the budding Calypsonians participated in an Easter workshop which was conducted at the Barbados Union of Teachers Headquarters, Welches in St. Michael. In that workshop Ms. Marissa Lindsay conducted sessions in ‘Voice Training’, Miss Jennifer Sealy dealt with ‘Stage Presentation’, Mr. Don ‘Sir Don’ Marshall addressed ‘Composing Lyrics’, Mr. Wayne ‘Poonka’ Willock taught ‘The Methods of Preparing for Competition’ and Mr. Stephen Brathwaite informed about ‘The Rules and Regulations’ of the Competition.

Scotiabank, last year’s sponsor of the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition also conducted a session on ‘Savings and Investments’.

The Junior Calypso Monarch Finals will be held at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium on Saturday, July 23rd at 7.00 p.m.

8 – 12 CATEGORY
