In October 2008, Hurricane Omar devastated the Four Seasons Nevis, the largest private sector employer on the island.

At the time, the prospects that the Four Seasons would be reopened were bleak. Premier Joseph Parry and the NRP Government embraced the challenge of reopening the Four Seasons - yet, they did it.
The devastating hurricane occurred just weeks after a stock market crash in the United States that ushered in the greatest global economic recession since the Great Depression.
