Green Readings 2011 – South Coast 11th June & West Coast 18th June, under patronage of Environment Ministry

Controversial poet Adrian "Amenyama" Green - one of the acts on call for the Hastings Reading on June 11

ArtsEtc and the Ministry of the Environment team up once again to present Green Readings. The annual event is staged over two weekends each June for Environment Month and showcases literary and other performance to help raise awareness about Barbadian environmental issues.

This year the readings take place on Saturday, June 11 on the Boardwalk, Hastings Rocks (directly behind KFC Hastings); and Saturday, June 18 in Folkstone Marine park, start time for both is 3:30 p.m.

June 11 performers are popular poets and spoken word artists, Adrian Green and Winston Farrell with visual artist Martina Pile; while the June 18 bill features writers Allison Cadogan, Margaret Gill, and Yvonne Weekes with the Barbados Community College theatre students. Each Green Reading will include an open mic segment called “Boardwalk Talk” where the audience gets to respond with questions, comments or a brief reading of their own.

Green Readings, now in its fourth year, has proved popular with audiences who enjoy the relaxed, scenic setting, provocative readings, and wine and refreshments afterwards, courtesy Chef Creig Yearwood.
