After performances, Director of the Plantation Theatre Tony Hoyos reminded the audience of a plea he publically made to Government to reduce the Vat imposed on Calypso tents. This year he’s taking his plea a step further, by suggesting Government look at setting the mandate for Cultural events but let private entities take the risk. According to Hoyos this would allow individuals with years of experience and do it every day to plan the events and thereby successfully increase the current revenue purported to be received from the festival.
Hoyos also spoke of the need to have a fame school where people at all levels of entertainment are able to develop their skills. Just as Chemistry and accountant majors have faculties which support their course of study then should so all those who wish to build their arts.
Peter Boyce the manager of the tent is bringing P. Boyce Show to the stage. After doing comedy only on 98.1 on Saturday mornings, he will be returning to the stage with a skit with Celebration Character “Wrinkles” .
Boyce also endorsed the sentiments of Adonijah for a 100 percent local radio station. He dismissed the thought that only calypso would be played as there are many local artist with music in genres of spouge, gospel, R&B and reggae, with some of these producing music on the international stage.
