Barbadians simmer, waiting for August: Rihanna Performs on Home Turf
The long awaited concert from our own Rihanna is finally about to become a reality. On Friday August 5th 2011, as part of the Sweetest Summer Festival, Rihanna will bring her stage show and full entourage to Barbados in what is being dubbed her ‘Home Coming Concert’.
“This had to happen, Barbadians had to be able to see and feel the impact of this magnificent show. People all over the world want to see her perform live and the BTA is happy to be able to make this a reality for thousands of Barbadians and visitors. We know that people around the Caribbean will be coming in for the show and we also expect that there are some who will extend their stay here to be a part of this show. It is one thing to see it on video but quite another to be there live.” commented Adrian Elcock, Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority the body responsible for bringing the Star home.
“We are actually partnering with the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) in the promotion of this show as this now adds another element to the Crop Over Festival; and gives us more to market to the regional and international communities as we strive to promote Barbados and increase the number of visitor arrivals,” he added.
Chairman of the National Cultural Foundation, Ms. Monique Taitt confirmed that the Foundation will work alongside the BTA to promote the various events in the Sweetest Summer Festival which now includes the Rihanna Concert. “In fact we will be offering a bundled ticket special for Cohobblopot and the Rihanna Concert which will allow purchasers of early bird tickets for the two shows to really cash in on the opportunity of saving and ensuring their place at Kensington Oval for probably the two biggest shows of the year here”.
She added that early bird tickets for the two shows will be available for $50 and $75 respectively but a bundled ticket for the two shows will be offered at the special price of only $110 -? $15 less than if they were purchased separately. These tickets will go on sale as of Friday July 8th 2011. A limited number of early bird tickets for Cohobblopot only are already available from all NCF box offices for $50. Tickets to all other shows on the NCF Crop Over Calendar went on sale at the box offices as of June 22, 2011.
“We know that we have a great package for Cohobblopot with the return of Machel Montano and his full HD family, especially after his big win in Trinidad this year and he will be sharing the stage with a complete contingent of talented local artistes who would have been featured in many of the crop over events during the Festival. In addition, I am very pleased that our title sponsors, Digicel and the Caribbean Super Station (CSS) are already on board, so we are rearing to go,” the Chairman added.
For the first time since making entertainment headlines 5 years ago, Rihanna will make Barbados a performance stop, as part of her LOUD World Tour. The event will see joint marketing efforts with the BTA and NCF while a number of local technical companies will work in conjunction with Roc Nation, the technical producers for the event.
