ATLANTIC/ELEKTRA ARTISTE LAZA MORGAN, NICKI MINAJ & R KELLY TO PERFORM ON REGGAE FESTIVAL IN JAMAICA
Atlantic /Elektra recording artiste Laza Morgan, son of Denroy Morgan, whose multi-platinum ‘I’ll Do Anything For You’ ruled urban playlists in the 1980’s, is confirmed as a performer on ‘International Night’ at the 2011 installment of Reggae Sumfest, on Saturday, July 23, at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Laza will join Nicki Minaj, R Kelly, along with Jamaican hitmakers Mavado, Jah Cure, Beenie Man, Tanya Stephens and I Octane at Sumfest, that kicks off on Thursday July 21 – Saturday July 23.
“I am extremely excited to be included in this year’s powerful Reggae Sumfest lineup. Sumfest is certainly the biggest platforms in the Caribbean for an artiste to showcase their craft and I plan to do just that when I perform on international night this year” he said.
Laza, who at age 13 (1992), performed with the group ‘The Dreads‘ in Montego Bay at Jamaica’s famed Reggae Sunsplash is promising fireworks inside Catherine Hall when he romps on stage for his first performance in Jamaica in a very long time.
“I plan to bring my A game to Sumfest and give fans something extra special that they will remember and treasure for many, many years to come” Morgan, one of 30 siblings promised.
Morgan’s raspy, resonating voice and rhythmic ‘DJ’ style flows are causing heads to turn stateside with his new single ‘One by One’ featuring dancehall hitmaker Mavado. The track, produced by Julian Bunetta and Frank E, is a hypnotic love song that is blazing urban Power 106 FM in LA, WJMH in Boston, WVIP, New York, WAVS in Florida and other radio stations across the USA with its compelling charm. The track has also started to penetrate ethnic charts and was added to the Miami Top Ten charts at the #7 position just this week. Laza’s hot new mixtape ‘First Look” dropped a few weeks ago and is now available for free online.
After signing with Elektra Records last year, Laza was featured on British pop sensation Alexandra Burke’s hit single “Start Without You” which topped the UK and European singles charts in September. He was also featured on Flo Rida’s hit single ’21’ from the album “The Only One.” Set to drop in late 2011, Laza’s debut album features production and cowriting from a small roster led by Julian Bunetta (Flo Rida, Leona Lewis, Boyz II Men) and DJ Frank E (Eminem, Kanye West, Flo Rida, Enrique Iglesias) and promises to signify a refreshing and exciting new chapter in the evolution of Reggae music.
His forthcoming Elektra debut has already yielded a single, ‘This Girl‘ that was featured in Disney’s feature film Step Up 3D and its smash soundtrack. ‘This Girl’ has generated over seven million hits on YouTube and has created a buzz that spans the globe.
