11th Annual Row for Variety Club Charity – Another Success, thanks to Mara & Co.
THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL ROW FOR CHARITY was recently staged in the Carlisle Bay on Father’s Day under overcast skies. The weather condition did not deter hundreds of kayak racers and their supporting friends who thoroughly enjoyed the day. The participants in the relay vied for prizes in the two race fun event.
Chief Barker (President) of Variety the Children’s Charity, Amanda McKay, confirmed that despite the economic challenges, the event received a very good response even though it was understandably lower in numbers than in previous years.
The “Motor Maniacs Madness Race” was won by Team iMart who admittedly were motivated by friendly rivalry with last year’s place winners, Bougainvillea Hotel. Second and third place went to Bougainvillea’s “Aquaholics” and “Cool Runnings.”
The very competitive “Sail by – Date Expired” also sponsored by Bougainvillea Hotel captured first place in the “The Wind Warriors Wonder Race”. Second place bragging rights went to Pigpen Corp’s “Azam Babies” and Carib LPG’s “Cooking with Gas”.
The Miss Barbados World Contestants made their first public appearance at ROW, and were admired by the spectators on hand. Mrs. Mara Thompson with the assistance of the contestants handed out the many prizes to the successful rowers. The girls also distributed prizes to spectators on the beach and the members of the audience at the prize giving ceremony, who answered questions about the past Row events.
Variety the Children’s Charity wishes to thank its many faithful sponsors, participating rowers, volunteers and the general public for their continued support.
