Digicel Barbados’ “Vintage Reggae”: Ainsley, proof positive that HIV is not the end of one’s productivity

Admiral had the best part of the show to me, he did a very important and valuable service for Live Up (Caribbean HIV Media & Digicel) he hugged and shook the hand of Ainsley - a man like you & me, who just happens to be HIV+ since the mid 90's and is still alive and very healthy!

If you recall “I Have No Son: Rico’s Story,” it was a very poignant situation of a UWI graduate who in order to try and advance himself professionally was sexually promiscuous at a great cost… However, the moral of the play was that HIV is not a Death sentence, one can still live a regular life if you follow certain details.

Ainsley, in the above picture, told folk at the Wildey Gymnasium how he has to take a number of pills throughout the day but they allow him to be healthy as he was before he became HIV+ and even more? He is married to a wife who’s HIV negative! This is a relationship known as a “discordant couple,” where one has HIV and the other does not…

She said to him if he is still alive by 1999 then she will marry him, guess what? That is one lady who has compassion and intelligence moreso than many in the Caribbean!
