{Follow-Up} Students charged with Assault by Barbados Police for Bus Fight – Meanwhile: 3 Vincentians in remand after another massive Drug Bust

1. DRUG SEIZURE ARRESTS

{FILE IMAGE - Courtesy CBS} The Police report revealed the multi-task force held; "...10 polyphene bags and 1 package of cannabis, weighing 323 lbs, valued approximately $650,000. This seizure occurred some 8 nautical miles off Needhams Point, Christ Church."

On Monday April 18, 2011, about 4.40pm, an operation carried out by the Drug Squad, and assisted by members of the Barbados Coast Guard and the Regional Security System, led to the seizure 10 polyphene bags and 1 package of cannabis, weighing 323 lbs, valued approximately $650,000. This seizure occurred some 8 nautical miles off Needhams Point, Christ Church. One boat was also seized, and three (3) Vincentian nationals are currently assisting with investigations.One boat was also seized, and three (3) Vincentian nationals have been charged for the offences of:
1. Possession
2. Possession with intent to supply
3. Trafficking; and
4. Importation

They are:
1. Rodney Dennis Deroche, 26 year old fisherman, of Questelles, St. Vincent;
2. Samuel Alphonso James, 39 year old landscaper, of Park Hill, St. Vincent; and
3. Charsin Aaron Thomas, 29 year old electrician, of Clear Valley, St. Vincent.

They are expected to appear at the District A Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 20 April 2011.

2. INVESTIGATIONS INTO A FIGHT ABOARD AN OMNIBUS

Inspector Welch indicates; "A window of the omnibus was damaged, and five (5) students are now assisting with investigations."

Investigations are continuing into a fight which occurred aboard a Transport Board omnibus about 8.30 am on Tuesday April 19, 2011, at Brereton, St. Philip. A window of the omnibus was damaged, no one was injured. 5 male students of a secondary school were arrested and charged for the following offences:

a. All were charged for Causing a disturbance;
b. Four of the students were charged for assault.

The students ranged in ages from 13 to 15 years.

3. MAN CHARGED FOR DRUG OFFENCES

Members of the Drug Squad executed a search warrant at the residence of Orlando Payne, 42 years, of Claybury, St. John, and 42 growing cannabis plants, ranging from 1 foot to 3 feet in height were seized, along with a quantity of cannabis seeds. Total weight of the seizure is six (6) lbs.

As a result, the following charges were preferred:

1. Possession
2. Possession with intent to supply
3. Trafficking; and
4. Cultivation.

He is expected to appear at the District C Magistrate Court on Wednesday 20 April 2011.
