KFC Ellerslie Does Barbados Proud During Easter Tour: Vincy Victory – 19 runs
During its 2011 Easter tour to the island of St. Vincent the Ellerslie Secondary School’s U-15 cricket team did Barbados and sponsor KFC proud as they recorded several creditable performances.
In their first four matches against like competition KFC Ellerslie came away with a commendable record of two wins and two losses, with an impressive victory coming against the St. Vincent National U-15 team, whom they defeated by 19 runs.
Additionally, the fifth and final match of the six day tour was played against St. Vincent’s Sandy Bay U-19 team, where KFC Ellerslie amassed a respectable first innings total of 147 runs, one of their highest scores of the tour.
Cricket Master of KFC Ellerslie, Dwayne Best, said the team’s performance was consistent throughout the duration of the tour as he commended the lads for their victories and impressive showings against older and more experienced competition:
“We have a young team which includes a few of our U-13 players; therefore, their performance over the duration of the tour was quite commendable considering their relative inexperience. To defeat a national U-15 team and then accumulate one of your highest totals against a more senior team speaks to the quality and dedication of our team, and also to the level or preparedness, a large part of which was made possible by KFC.”
KFC’s Marketing Coordinator, Shekelia Barrow, said they were happy with KFC Ellerslie’s results on the tour, noting the consistency of their performances in recent years:
“The cricketing teams of the Ellerslie Secondary School have done KFC proud over the last few years, reaching the latter stages of competition in the various age groups, the most recent being the semi-finals of the Barbados Cricket Association’s U-13 competition. We at KFC are delighted to be assisted in the development of these players and will continue to provide strong support in the future.”
This year’s Easter tour was a warm up for the KFC U-15 team which will be taking part in this year’s Barbados Cricket Association’s National U-15 tournament, which takes place during this year’s school’s summer vacation.
