Xpressions Art Show now extended until March 12th at Pharmacy Gallery in Speightstown

My inspiration:
· Vogue December 2010 accessories spread- beautiful jewelled shoes, bags and cocktail rings – brilliant colours and metallics
· Obsession with hibiscus flowers
· Pompoms – I have a 3yr old daughter and we love to stick them everywhere.

When Martina mentioned that she was doing an abstract art show I thought “Hmmm. Could be a challenge and a bit of a different direction for me.” So I jumped in and said yes. Then got home and thought “What have I agreed to? I don’t do abstract!” But the Vogue accessories spread came back to mind and I thought maybe I could do that mixed with oversized hibiscus flowers. Magnify the blooms to the point of abstraction and base the background textures on the gorgeous shiny luxury items from the magazine.

However when I’d finished and had all three paintings together I decided that instead of the flowers being magnified, it was more that I had shrunk and was sitting in the hibiscus overlooking the lawn (‘Grass Cuttings’), the water (‘Pool Gazing’) and the sand (‘Sun Shading’).
