The annual competition, which runs this year from Friday, March 18 to Tuesday, March 22, has seen participants from around the Southern Caribbean Billfish Circuit as well as other international competitors over the years and that same level of participation is again anticipated with over 30 boats registered for the tournament. Alex Tasker, Digicel’s commercial director, expressed his delight in the continued support of the fishing tournament, stating that it was these kinds of events that assist in boosting Barbados’ overall sporting development and enhances the country’s position as a sports tourism destination.

This is our third year as sponsors of this top quality event and we commend the BGFA for the high standards of this annual tournament which continues to attract international competitors to these shores. “Digicel remains committed to the development of sports in Barbados and recognizes the importance of tournaments such as this which promote the country’s position as a premiere sporting destination and we look forward to another successful tournament filled with outstanding catches and loads of excitement,” Tasker said.

Heart felt congratulations and kudos to the boats who weighed in their catch under the boat pool prize category and in so doing contributed them to the Club in a year that has seen tremendous challenges due to the declining economy amongst other things. This generosity will have literally saved the Club and it's charities, and notwithstanding the many smaller welcome contributions from most of the fleet, Joe Brooker, Andrew Jones and Dennis Marsh/Jono Jones must be singled out for special mention and be congratulated alongside all the others for their fine display of Club Spirit. I hope that they will stand as beacons of great Sportsmanship and Club Spirit, and that others will follow their sterling example this year as has been the case with many others in previous years. As a Committee member where countless hours of hard work often goes unrewarded, to me this return from the majority of the members has been a welcome reward and reaffirmation of the Spirit of the Club - James Peirce

Frank Armstrong, president of the BGFA, thanked the company for its continued partnership, stressing that it was the support of companies such as Digicel which ensured the success of the event. He stated: “We are very happy to continue our association with Digicel. We are aware that they also sponsor fishing and sailing events in neighboring islands so it is a great fit for the BGFA and we hope to continue to this partnership which produces a well-rounded and highly publicized fishing tournament.”
