As a result, the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the 2010 initiative which President Kemar Saffrey noted was a welcome treat for the scores of attendees who cannot afford to purchase food:

Some people perceive purchasing food as a basic necessity but the reality is that there are many people who are unemployed, living on the streets who cannot afford to buy food… we are thus delighted to be supported by KFC and our members were very happy to enjoy a fast food treat. We hope that other companies would also support us as we usually have to purchase food from our own pockets to cook and share with the less fortunate and it not only gives them a blessing but it also gives our volunteers a much needed break.”

The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Barbados is another beneficiary of KFC’s 2010 World Hunger Relief efforts and a cheque will be presented to them next month from the monies donated at collection bins located at KFC’s branches across Barbados.

Marketing Coordinator at KFC, Shekelia Barrow says the company is always pleased to assist with worthwhile programmes:

The current economic situation has dampened the spirit of sharing but KFC has pledged to continue providing assistance where possible, especially to those who are unable to provide for themselves…it is a warm and delightful feeling to know that you have contributed to another person’s happiness.”
