This is the same “hole in the bucket” nonsense with both parties: the first did nothing about the high prices, the successor tinkered with the environmental levy but made it worse by increasing VAT – the merchants reacted like vultures. If the DLP does remove the VAT increase as it said it would consider doing, food prices will not go down because the merchants have a trusty list of excuses for use to avoid the reduction of their profits that trying to stop the hole in the bucket will effect. And the Government will always hesitate to tackle the matter with the required seriousness and diligence.
