The charity devised to perpetuate the memory of Cricket World Cup 2007 Coordinator, Stephen Alleyne, is so successful it is now in St Lucia, St Vincent and a branch is now just set up in Pakistan. The organisation which uses cricket as a fulcrum to encourage remedial children to learn Maths & English got its launch here in Barbados with similar satellites in Trinidad & Antigua.
Only last year, there was a fund-raiser at the Royal Pavilion resort with noted tenor and the patron was one of Sport For Life’s director’s, Lord Richard Newby, and there was a very popular Silent Auction with many keenly contested items.
This year, after the settling of the David Cameron Tory coalition administration with the Liberal Democrats, their Foreign Minister Jeremy Browne, MP for Taunton, came to Barbados to inspect the Sport For Life! Headquarters. He is liaising with local Cabinet and will perform similar duties in both Kingstown and Port-Of-Spain this week.
In a briefing session after the tour at Kensington Oval with Barbadian Sports Minister Stephen Lashley & UK High Commissioner Paul Burchell, there was a Q&A session and this Web Magazine asked Minister Browne since Britain’s Government now had time to adjust to the pooling of resources between two political entities, are there any plans to review the Airline Passenger Duty which is considered crippling to travel for not only Barbados but the entire region?
