Joe LaFleur, Chief Geologist for West Indies Power (WIP), and his co-author, Dr. Skip Hoag, were honored, on December 13th. 2010, with the “Best Presentation Award” in the Exploration session of this year’s Annual Meeting of the Geothermal Resource Council (GRC). The presentation titled “Geothermal Exploration Drilling on Nevis: A Caribbean Success Story” describes the work done and techniques used by West Indies Power (Nevis) Ltd (WIPN) in the exploration and demonstration of the major geothermal resource on Nevis.
The Geothermal Resource Council is the largest and most respected geothermal association in the world. It is headquartered in Davis, California. The GRC includes all aspects of the greater geothermal community including both government and private sectors.

After presenting the paper, WIP Chief Geologist, Joe LaFleur, stated that “the resource identified by the exploration drilling on Nevis appears to have adequate size to supply the power demand of both St Kitts and Nevis. If aggressively pursued, it has the resource capacity capable of making St. Kitts-Nevis the first totally geothermal country in the world.”
