An intriguing semi-final match bowls is underway when KFC Ellerslie take on St. Leonard’s Secondary School to avenge their loss to Harrison College in last year’s competition.
With only 1 wicket to take in order to advance to the semi-finals of this year’s BCA’s Everton Weekes Under-13 Schools Cricket competition, the lads of the St. Michael Secondary School were devastated when KFC Ellerslie batsman, Kevin Thorpe, was dropped at short cover.
This proved to be decisive as the KFC Ellerslie squad went on to total 80, surpassing the target of 78 set by St. Michael Secondary School.
After losing wickets 7 through 9 for a total of 5 runs, with some 8 runs still left to be made, it seemed as though the relatively small target set by St. Michael Secondary School in 32 overs, playing home at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Ground, would be too much for KFC Ellerslie.

However, undisciplined bowling by the St. Michael Secondary lads produced a number of extras, bringing the Black Rock squad closer to the target, and eventually handing them the victory in the 29th over.
Opener Jaleel Corbin top scored for KFC Ellerslie with 13 of the team’s 80; while Thorpe’s defiant 6 not out ensured that the visiting team made it over the line.
Top scoring for St. Michael Secondary was Danny Chisham, who contributed 20 to the school’s total of 78 for the loss of 4 wickets.
Today’s other semi-final brings together Combermere and the Christ Church Foundation Schools at the Waterford ground.
