Dominican Republic to ban mobiles in all of their Jails

If the ban is imposed, what will be done to enable guards to communicate during emergencies?

The Attorney General of the Dominican RepublicRadhames Jimenez, revealed during a recent Press Conference that officials are working on a project to block the use of cell phones in the country’s jails.

This measure is likely to have been spurred by the recent revelations in the case of the attempted murder of lawyer Jordi Veras, which was set up through conversations over cell phones from the Rafey Men’s Prison in Santiago.

Jimenez said that the project would cover the traditional prisons as well as all the new model institutions.
