Virgin Holidays Music Festival announces dates for 2010 in Barbados!
For the fourth year running Surfer’s Bay in Christ Church will play host to the Virgin Holidays Music Festival, where some of the UK’s most talented musicians join forces with Barbadian, Trinidadian and St. Lucian musicians to create an international musical extravaganza!
With a new headline sponsor in Virgin Holidays, Veronica Montgomery, co-organiser said, ‘We are delighted to have Virgin Holidays as a sponsor, they have provided excellent marketing support for the event, contacting Virgin Holidays passengers before they even leave the UK to make them aware of the event. They are promoting the event via Virgin.com, which is the gateway to all Virgin companies around the world and will be running shuttle buses up to Surfer’s Bay throughout, which will be available for all to use. We are also really delighted that Red Room – the Virgin online music Channel will be making a programme dedicated to the event, which is a great show case for the Caribbean artists involved.”
Banks presents 3 days of live music at the beach side location in genres covering rock, reggae, dub, blues, ska, funk and folk.
The event will open on Thursday 18 November at Bert’s Bar on the south coast where patron’s will be treated to a performance from The Martin Harley Band, who have played at the festival for the last four years and now have sound fan base in Barbados. Show time 8.30pm.
Then the main event will run from Friday 19 November when gates open at Surfer’s Bay from 6pm, there will live music with performances from both UK & Caribbean artists in the rock & funk genres.
On Saturday the gates open at 12 noon and will see performances from more UK and local artists, who will be performing reggae, dub and ska. Highlight of the evening will be the Dub Pistols fresh in from rocking every UK festival in 2010 with guest performances from UK godfather of Hip Hop Rodney P and guest vocals from Beats International singer Lindy Layton, who reached high acclaim in the dub world in the nineties with ‘Dub be good to me’ and is famous for her rerecording with Janey Kay of ‘Silly Games’. Festival goers will also get to hear the new release from Rodney P & Lindy Layton of ‘I’m in Love’.
On Sunday the gates again open at 12 noon and there will be a mixture of artists performing acoustic sets with the genre of the day being folk & blues, the Sunday has traditionally been the family day and festival goers are encouraged to make a day of it, relaxing and enjoying the laid back atmosphere. The headline act of the day will be the Martin Harley Band who have also performed at all the major UK festivals this year.
Steve Campbell, co-organiser of the event said, “This year we have some returning favourites but also a lot of new faces to the line up, we really try hard to use this event as a show case for local talent. Once again we have to thank Courtesy for providing the UK artists with transport and Intimate Hotels for providing their accommodation. This event is only possible with their financial input.”
Tickets cost $25 per day and go on sale from Monday 1 November 2010 at Surfer’s Café in Oistins, for more information please check the Facebook group – Virgin Holidays Music Festival 2010.
