Message of Condolence on the passing of Prime Minister David Thompson By Terrol Inniss – President of Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union Ltd.

It was with a deep sense of loss that I received the news of the passing of Prime Minister David John Howard Thompson, QC.

Prime Minister Thompson will be remembered for his astute leadership during a very difficult global economic climate since assuming office in 2008.

His support of the credit union movement was also manifested in his government’s generous income tax allowances granted to credit union members and which over the past two years members of Barbados Public Workers have taken full advantage of.

Within the Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union (BPWCCUL) family, we will remember him for his support of the credit union during its acquisition of CLICO Mortgage and Finance Corporation (CMFC), as Minister of Finance he gave the deal his blessing and we were able to conclude that matter on the basis of the Prime Minister’s support.

As a credit union we were also proud that Prime Minister Thompson saw it fit to include in his cabinet a distinguished past president of this credit union.

On behalf of the credit union’s Board, Elected Officials, Management, Staff and more than 50 thousand members I extend deepest condolences to his Wife Mara, his Daughters, Mother, Father and other family members.

May light perpetual shine on him and may he rest in peace.
