Barbados History jammed into ashtray – Sam Lord’s castle, National Treasure now smoky memory; who wins?

In a move predicted by Barbados Free Press close to a year ago, what was once a premier dining and conference event is now reduced to a smouldering pile of phoenix-like excrement… The former Marriott’s Sam Lord’s Castle is now no more, while former owner Thomas Grant is still awaiting funds from the sale of the property to CLICO Holdings.

CLICO itself is now continuously devolving into a financial nightmare when investors cannot reclaim monies placed in the once popular Insurance conglomerate, its founder Lawrence Duprey himself, according to Caribbean 360 is now battling illness. This begs the question which all Barbadians want to know – was the fire deliberate or was it a sad accident of a drug addict using the derelict shell as a poor man’s oven? If it was a deliberate deed, then who benefits from this destruction and rape of Barbados’ history?

Not that long ago, Andrew Hulsmeier did a very powerful and prophetic video on the history of Sam Lord’s degradation, we included it as a final memento of what was once a magnificent piece of Barbadian Tourism.
