Yet Another Old Barbadian Picture: Hastings Baths Bridge – Don Armstrong and friends, from Commander D’Orient

COMMANDER D’ORIENT: I grew up next door to the ‘Hastings Bath‘! It used to belong to the Chandlers, the house is still there, I believe it’s the Scrabble headquarters – but the ‘bath‘ – meaning the bridge and the house at the end… is long gone!

  1. Donald Armstrong is my grandfather. I also remember the Hastings Baths as young boy back in ’50s but it only had one bath house at that time. The Chandlers used to charge between 10-25 cents to pass through their property “Villa Franca” and to use the bath house. The bath house and the jetty were destroyed during Hurricane Janet.

The house was originally owned by three Chandler sisters and more recently it
was owned by an offshore company that marketed the “Trivial Pursuit” game. It is now owned by a Nicholas Forde who is an attorney-at-Law.

The new boardwalk passes close the house and the entrance to the property that is in the background of this photograph is still there.
