18 YOUNG PEOPLE from 10 nations head to Haiti next month to be a part of the relief work that continues in that nation following the earthquake devastation of January this year. The team, led by Barbadian missionaries Janelle Noel and Laura Applewhite along with Haitian missionary Daniel Noel will focus its efforts in the Haitian cities of Port-au-Prince and Gonaives.
According to Youth With A Mission, the team is ‘through this outreach, doing their small part to bring hope for social transformation and spiritual transformation that should translate to better lives for Haitians’.
To assist the group with the funds necessary to carry out their relief visit as well as help them to give financially while there, YWAM will stage a benefit concert on Saturday, September 25 at Carrington Wesleyan Church, Welches Road, St. Michael. The eclectic line up will feature Shane Forrester, Praise Academy, Neil Crichlow, Ria Greene, Makonem as well as Nazarene’s Women’s Choir and many more.
The Concert, dubbed “Yon Nouvelle Ayiti” or “A New Haiti” was conceptualised to raise awareness, to raise funds for the YWAM team to go into Haiti and most importantly to raise funds for the people of Haiti.
The group is from the Discipleship Training School (DTS), a five month intensive programme designed to ready young people for the mission field. This school’s focus this year is Social Justice. They will be on this outreach for two months, mainly Haiti with a visit to the Dominican Republic as well.
It is hoped that the work of the team will play a part in the establishment of a new Haiti, a strong prosperous nation guided by positive moral principles, especially in the context of the upcoming election there.
