Diasporic Arts Productions’ debut “IT SO HAPPEN SUITE” September 29th to October 3rd Frank Collymore Hall – Barbados
Diasporic Arts Productions (D.A.P.) is a new company formed early in 2009. It is our conviction that Barbados needs professional theatre/performing arts companies to elevate the craft. Diasporic Arts Productions aims to do this by bringing together a wealth of craft and business practice, and young innovative talents, with their fresh perspectives and training. Experienced and passionate cultural and arts administrators complete the company.
Mission: Our Artistic Vision
Diasporic Arts Productions produces and facilitates performance-based productions that speak to and speak of the African Diaspora experience. Our productions will seek to deepen regional cultural ties and foster a global cultural network of African Diasporic peoples.
Our objectives were born out of perceived needs to delineate and stimulate discourse on cultural identity through the celebration and creation of Barbadian theatrical and literary classics. Our objectives are to:
• Celebrate and create Barbadian and Diasporic classics
• Nurture and strengthen the voices and skills of Barbadian playwrights and performers
• Provide theatre practitioners with employment
• Provide audiences with a year round season of cultural and entertainment activities ranging from large main stage productions to smaller experimental theatre, theatre for young audiences, readings and special events
