Barbados’ Education Minister sidesteps EDUTECH at conference where teaching is rewarded

Royal Fidelity is a subsidiary of RBC which operates with Fidelity Merchant Bank in much the same way Barclays and CIBC are First Caribbean in the West Indies. They have decided to create an opportunity to respect the people who made them able to count numbers so well – teachers.

The Royal Fidelity National Distinguished Teachers’ Awards will look to select and acknowledge ten educators from different strata, attending the event is former president of the Barbados Union of Teachers and current Education Minister, Ronald Jones and we pointed out Nevis’ initiative where they encouraged foreign investors to provide computers for the primary school level; in this light we asked what is the latest progress with Edutech? Mr Jones’ contention is that this is Royal Fidelity’s moent and apart from that, the question is insignificant in that technology may come and go but people always remain to use it and invent more technology.

She lists the qualities which would ensure selection, including inspire learning, knowledge of their topic beyond what the school provides and having respect of colleagues and pupils alike.

Then Mrs Best explained the criteria in selecting 2 nursery school educators as well as 3 primary, 2 secondary, 1 Sixth Form educator and 1 tertiary level from either BCC, Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic or Erdiston Teachers’ Training College along with 1 Special Needs teacher.

The selection runs from January 2011 to June that same year and the ajudication will be in August, with announcement at the inaugural Royal Fidelity National Distinguished Teacher Awards by 17 Sept 2011
