Barbadian Secondary School Basketball Team gets rebound with Restaurateur Franchise

The basketball teams of Combermere Secondary School here in Barbados will now be known as “KFC Combermere” following the decision by KFC to become the teams’ official sponsor.

Having begun a relationship in 2009, KFC has been keen on increasing its assistance to both the Under-16 and Under-19 boys squads, as well as the girls team and this school year, just in time for the 2010 Under-19 tournament which starts Friday October 1, 2010 & KFC will be providing the school with basketball equipment, including balls and nets, uniforms, medical kits and other items to make the teams journey all the way to the finals a better one.

Stuart Mayers, who has been coaching the teams over the last few years, said the equipment will enhance efficiency during training, as well as serve as a great motivator for the players:

I’m very happy for KFC’s continued support…we work well with them and their sponsorship only serves to further enhance the team’s confidence after such outstanding performances in recent years, knowing a corporate citizen such as KFC is taking interest in the team and rewarding the players for their efforts, gives everyone something more to play for. They not only want to play for the school or themselves, but for also for their sponsors KFC.”

KFC’s Marketing Coordinator, Shekelia Barrow, is proud of the school’s consistent solid performances and decided it was time to do more:

Since aligning the KFC brand with the school’s basketball programme in 2009, we have been thoroughly impressed with the highly professional performances and the outstanding results Combermere boys and girls have recorded…we therefore sought to provide the teams with additional tools to assist their quest to remain champions.”

The KFC Combermere basketball Under-16 boy’s team are the defending league and knockout champions impressively finishing both competitions undefeated. The KFC Combermere basketball Under-19 boy’s basketball squad is equally talented recording creditable results also. The girl’s team recently entered the competition and is improving each year making it to the semi-finals in 2009.

KFC has also promised to discuss further assistance for the players, coaches and the school in the future as their relationship grows and is strengthened by excellent performances.
