Security officials at St Lucia’s Bordelais Correctional Facility in Dennery met looking how to improve security at the maximum security prisons after a daring daylight break on Sunday afternoon that saw three prisoners escaping to freedom.

Reports indicate they enlisted assistance from the Regional Security System (RSS) to investigate the break in, which is having a rippling effect on the prison system putting all correctional officers and the prisons special response team on high alert.

Three armed and masked men, operating from the south west perimeter of the facility, facilitated the escape by throwing a bolt cutter over the three layered fence that surrounds the prisons. The escaped prisoners, two Venezuelans and a Saint Lucian cut through the fences, using the cutter, and fled through the hole made to freedom while their armed accomplices held the prisons’ special response team at bay by firing repeatedly at the response team.

A release from Castries’ Administration notes that the authorities are currently engaged in an aggressive and wide-spread effort to return the escaped inmates to lawful custody.

Government is appealing to all members of the public with information on this breach and the where-about of the escaped inmates to contact the prisons or police officials as a matter of urgency.

The escaped inmates and their accomplices are considered to be armed and dangerous. Further information will be provided as necessary on developments pertaining to this situation,” the government noted in its press release.

On the run are Venezuelans 33 year old Eulices Jose Marino Luna alias Blac Horse, and 29 year old Egardo Boada Redriguez, alias Rajael Jose Yepez Betancourt both at the time serving four years and two years concurrently having been convicted of Possession of Cocaine and possession of Cocaine with intent to supply.

Also on the run is Saint Lucian Mohammed Duncan, 22 originally of Morne Du Don now said to be from Bruceville, Vieux Fort. He was serving a seven year sentence for Possession of Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and six months for Wounding

He was also awaiting trial on the charge of Attempted Murder of a Justice of the Peace in Vieux Fort, an incident that took place sometime ago.
