JAMAICA, FAREWELL – BACK WHERE IT ALL BEGAN: A hilarious and touching story of how one young woman risked everything in order to fulfill her lifelong dream of starting over in America.

On Wednesday August 11, NAACP award-winning writer/performer Debra Ehrhardt will perform her one woman play, JAMAICA, FAREWELL at Theatre Place in New Kingston for five days only.

Based on her true-life story, JAMAICA FAREWELL, tells the journey a teenage Ehrhardt took to leave Jamaica during the political unrest in the 1970’s. Left to her own devices, she risked prison time and even death in her attempt to pull off a daring and dangerous caper. With the unwitting help of an infatuated American CIA agent, she realized her lifelong dream of starting over in America.

Many Americans have no conception of the barriers that lie in the way of immigrants who try to get to America from third world countries. Because the reward is great, however, we are willing to take tremendous risks.” Debra Ehrhardt explains. “In America, if you can dream it, you can achieve it. This play is based on the story of my journey from Jamaica to America during the Manley Era. I wrote it because it encapsulates one of the most adventurous, defining moments of my life.”

JAMAICA, FAREWELL had its UK premiere at the Hackney Empire in September 2008 and an eight-week Off-Broadway run at the Soho Playhouse in the Spring of 2009.
