Dinah Washington once crooned what a difference a day makes, she was so right – Sunday 22 August 2010… We looked at the morning and now for the evening…

Judas Iscariot gave his leader away for 30 pieces of silver known as shekels, Esau sold his birthright for what amounted to half a bowl of lentil soup while in what later became the US of A thousands of years later – the Dutch without explaining properly, ‘bought‘ the Island of Manhattan from Native Americans for approximately $24 US currency…

Barbadians in their thousands came forward to witness change in their country's thinking that night in front of the House of Assembly

Fly forward again hundreds of years later and Barbados learns a lease for close to a century has been brokered with a subsidiary of Jada Construction at a rate which seems even obscene when compared with the deal brokered between China and UK over Hong Kong – don’t take my word for it, visit HERE!

This led the main Opposition of Barbados to launch an emergency session via Public meeting where thousands gathered to hear more on “Barbados Adrift,” where a case was made for Housing Minister Michael Lashley to either surrender his Cabinet post or be forcibly ejected. If this was a court case then the jury would deliberate very shortly and the foreman would return a Unanimous decision – again, not just my opinion… Even former sites previously thought to be pro-DLP are now stating Opposition Leader Mia Mottley has a sound and valid case for her motion.

Dr Jerome Walcott wondered how a Priest who is expected to show mercy could be so harsh in expelling assistance for the island's poor, elderly & needy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital?

All due respects, but leave Gline Clarke from deliberations, his oration skills are for more intimate gatherings.

How much different is the NHC's Coverley plots from the Middle Passage? Look and choose for your own contentment!

The speech powerhouses that night by far were Jerome Walcott with his Shakespearean emotive power; Deputy Opposition Leader Dale Marshall‘s complete grasp of amplified technology by understated vocals yet lethal word-karate and use of slides in his impactful contribution; ex-Leader Owen Arthur‘s addition of how the Eastern Caribbean is seeking to alleviate any of their people from any possible adverse investments with CLICO; Liz Thompson‘s use of raw language and humour to drive home the the rabbit-hutches of “Zero Lined Lots” in Coverley.

Much like how Tom Adams would draw reference to similar events from his opponents' experiences, Ms Mottley made the succinct connection when the late Rt Excellent EW Barrow was forced to sack "Joy" Edwards, his Housing Minister who was a popular MP - he did it at a Public meeting with immediate effect

The main diva for the night starts my batting order in this clip. Here are some visual highlights for those who missed the action;-

When you have leadership so well coordinated with a band of crack experts supporting a solid case it brings to mind Benazir Bhutto, Golda Meier, Indira Ghandi, Dame Eugenia Charles, Kamla Persaud-Bisessar, Dame Margaret Thatcher and although some may dispute it – Julia Gillard. Most of these territories are former British Colonies while one is the heart of Britain itself, Pakistan, India, Israel, Dominica, UK, Trinidad & Tobago plus Australia. Many Barbadians made it clear Sunday night they want to see a new member of the world’s population experience leadership under a female perspective.

An eerie yet stirringly apt comparison was made on the lots of Coverley - how different from the Middle Passage? Are we Tenants or are we Cargo?

After the four hour deliberation at Heroes’ Square outside of the world’s 3rd oldest Commonwealth Parliament, and the myriad Bajans not just witnessing but justifying the call for the either the resignation or dismissing of Michael Lashley from his Housing portfolio – it is clear if Elections were called now that Mia Amor Mottley would easily be the next Prime Minister of Barbados! Let’s hope she can do differently to return this country to its correct status than what the Old Boys’ Network of both sides has allowed to seep like a morass via decades of inertia.
