DOMINION OF BARBADOS – From the Caribbean to the Internet: Sean Michael Field and Maia Nicholson have been cast in the lead roles of web series, also helmed by Bajans Rodney Smith and Andrew Stoute
“Dominion” the new supernatural detective noir web series (think “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” meets “Magnum PI”) from Flyin’ Monkey Films LLC has announced the leads for the series to actors of Barbadian descent.
Actress Maia Nicholson has been cast as “Jennifer Marco” after capturing director Rodney Smith’s attention on the short film “Mirror Mirror”. Maia started in theatre when she was five and since has earned a degree in performing arts in Barbados and in Theatre from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Her work in film and television include ‘The Candy Store‘, ‘Brookdramada,’ ‘30 Years to Life‘ among others and most recently was the lead in ‘Mirror Mirror’ before being cast as “Marco” in the “Dominion” web series.
The lead role of “Jeremiah” is being handled by veteran actor Sean Michael Field who has been slowly making his presence known in a number of independent and mainstream productions in the US. Sean has appeared in numerous Barbadian productions before making his move to the US where he was handpicked from a line of 300 actors for a scene in the Will Smith movie “Hancock”. Since then he has appeared popular TV shows CSI Miami, ER, Lincoln Heights, 24, NCIS, Two and a Half Men, Dirty Sexy Money and the pilot for Life on Mars. Sean recently filmed ‘Two Brits and Some Mexican Cowboys’, and landed the spokesperson role in the new ‘AAMCO’ national commercial and is currently filming the feature ‘Wedding Day’.
Behind the scenes of the entire production are two more Barbadians: Andrew Stoute and Rodney Smith, who have created and written the series together. The series has been in development for well over 12 months, Smith and Stoute working mostly via internet chat programs and Google Docs, sending scripts and countless drafts back and forth. Smith also handles the main production work, using his 6 years of experience in film and television to streamline the production process. The number of projects the team has worked on keeps growing, starting with the short film “Call Waiting” through 10 short films including “The Strange Days of Joey Davis” and the twisted fairytale “Mirror Mirror” (starring Maia Nicholson).
