Members of Security at Grantley Adams International Airport cause unnecessary furore – lock Car Park gates overnight and create chaos for early morning flights
Family at significant or lengthy departures are usually very emotional, so imagine when I take my wife, sis-in-law and their mum, my mother-in-law to ye olde GAIA and I discover I’m denied access to the Car Park? No sign to indicate why either…
I call the Grantley Adams International Airport to find out why and I get transferred to the Pay Station for Parking, they state they arrived for nine and heard about it and what they understood is the ‘arms‘ for the electronic gates were faulty and so they secured the facility until morning, with all cars overnight remaining inside – that did not sound right since not every car would be there all night, surely shifts would end at a point that someone wanted an exit?
Accessing the Blue Pages, I sought to reach Keith Goddard, their Corporate Communications Officer through the After Hours section, when I buttonholed a GAIA official I relayed what transpired. They told me there was no fault with the gate, I learned from the official when a guard sought to use their ‘swipe‘ it was not acknowledged and they assumed it was all entries and exits, so they locked it all down with no temporary signage!
I asked if there was no Press Release issued on the incident, and was informed since the blockage was removed by 6:30 am there was no need to notify the public. Isn’t that nice? So I missed my wife’s departure because Security are too dumb to understand magnetic strip technology and they couldn’t be bored to leave a temporary notice by each gate so folks would not be annoyed… Can you say “Dale Carnegie” and how about some basic training in swipe-card usage?
