Blue Ribbon Performance for a Yellow Ribboned song: Update #4 – LIME Barbados Karaoke Championship
For the last few Fridays singers have been coming out to Braddies Bar in Dover, Ch. Ch. with their eyes on the cash prize of $5,000 being offered for the winner of the LIME Barbados Karaoke Championship.
This week two women took the top positions with Selma Smith leading the way in this, the fourth round of the Championship. Singing ABBA’s “Chiquitita“, Selma got the competition off to a great start. Placing second, Sabrina Mayers sang “Jesus Take The Wheel” by Carrie Underwood.
This was her second attempt in the competition – the first time, the judges’ advice was that she was too shy in her performance. This time she was more confident and ready to sing her heart out.
Notable performers of the night were Albert Doyle and Jocelyn Renee. Albert got the crowd dancing when he sang Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree. In his bright yellow shirt he danced across the stage interacting with the audience and even producing a letter as Tony Orlando, the original singer, wrote his lady to in the song.
It was a performance worthy of full points for Presentation. With an introduction declaring she would not judge any woman or man for their choices, Jocelyn’s powerful start put her in the top four along with Doyle.
The Championship continues at Braddies Bar this Friday night with 20 more contestants. Registration opens at 8:00pm and judging starts at 10:30pm.
