FUND LAUNCHED TO BUILD MUCH NEEDED PAVILION AT QUEEN’S COLLEGE
Queen’s College students have for some time now been striving, against the odds, to achieve sporting excellence. They have been operating without proper sports facilities since the school’s relocation from Constitution Road in 1990.
In spite of this, the records have shown that the students have been performing admirably but could do far better if they had dedicated purpose-built facilities for the various sporting activities.
The School’s Board of Management has therefore embarked on the bold initiative to raise BDS $1.2 million to facilitate the construction of a new Sports Pavilion at the Husbands, St. James location.
Under the patronage of past alumna Dame Billie Miller, a Give Back QC Committee has been formed that operates and reports to the Board of Management. The committee is headed by Chairperson Vivian- Anne Gittens, another Alumna of the school and Publisher of the Nation, and comprises other past students as well as members of the teachers’ body and the PTA.
At the official event to launch the fund raising activity, plans were revealed for the pavilion while guests heard from Chairman of the Board Novaline Brewster as well as Education officials.
Dame Billie Miller officially endorsed the project and invited all past students to make pledges to ensure that the present students of the school no longer have to do without proper facilities to train and take part in various sporting activities.
Pledge forms have been designed and were distributed to those present and will be available to all persons interested in donating towards this worthy cause since the students have been doing very well in a number of sporting disciplines despite the poor conditions under which they have had to train.
