WI DOWN UNDER OR DOWN & OUT? Darren Sammy smashes late sixes as Windies post 138

Darren_Sammy_300Superb power hitting from Darren Sammy at the end of the innings helped the West Indies to post a competitive score against Australia in the second and final T20 International at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday night.

westindiescricketaskmeanyThe powerful right-hander blasted two sixes off the final two balls of the last over from debutant Brendan Christian as the Windies ended on 138-7 off their 20 overs. Sammy finished on 26 not out off just 11 balls. Left-hander Narsingh Deonarine, who held the innings together, closed on 36 not out from 29 balls. They shared an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 40 off just 21 balls. The WIndies were again in early trouble and were tottering at 98-7 in the 17th over before Sammy and Deonarine gave the innings a rousing climax.

The best bowlers for Australia were debutants Ryan Harris and Christian who both took two wickets. The West Indies bowlers will now have their work cut out as they seek series-levelling victory which would be their first win on tour, if it happens.
