The Lakeshore Concert Band
This group is a community band whose musicians are amateurs in the true sense of the word. They are music lovers. As a non-profit organization, the band enthusiastically supports charitable causes, performing concerts for schools, hospitals, and fundraising events.
Band members are not paid, but that does not stop them from tackling challenging projects. The band has recorded two CD’s; ‘A Lakeshore Concert‘ and ‘A World of Music‘, recorded in 1997 and 2002 respectively. The band has travelled extensively over the years with tours to the Maritimes, Boston, Norway, Spain, Holland, England and Scotland. The band’s most recent tour to Vancouver and Victoria was a great success. Plans are underway for our next tour to Barbados in 2010. During their tour in Barbados, they will be performing at Frank Collymore Hall, the Crane Resort, the Hilton Hotel and for the students of Foundation School.
The Lakeshore Concert Band calls Dorval home and has enjoyed a strong supporting relationship with the city over the years. Concerts are presented year-round, out doors and indoors, with its yearly Gala in the spring.
The Gala Concert has been an annual event ever since its inauguration at the 25th anniversary reunion in 1992. Another perennial favourite is the Christmas Dessert Concert, where the audience enjoys homemade dessert prepared for them by band members.
The Lakeshore Concert Band was founded in 1967 by Morley Cal vert. Mr. Calvert (1928-1991) also founded and directed the McGill University Concert Band. The Lakeshore Concert Band has been honoured to have many excellent musical directors over the past 42 years, including the current director Mark Dharmaratnam, who has been with the group since 1998.
