David Rudder’s “Haiti” Anthem for Reform? An Appreciation © Ena Priscilla: 05/02/10

If you weren’t at Farley Hill last Friday, did you catch the finale of the local fund-raiser for Haiti on TV’s Channel 8?

On came David Rudder, with some help from local artistes, as he powerfully performed his  “Rally ‘Round The West Indies” and “Haiti I’m Sorry.” As they say “it was awesome”.

Suddenly, for me, “West Indies” seemed a more meaningful and unifying term than “Caribbean”. And I did hear him quietly say “Why only now?” No doubt referring to unity among us only showing its face in times of tragedy.

Shall we rally ’round the West Indies, now and forever?
