The Dominican Republic and Cuba are leading the Continental Youth Boxing Championship that began over the weekend at the Gran Arena del Cibao in Santiago.

Juan Gabriel Medina, in the 48kg (105lbs) category, was the first to win for the DR when he defeated Rene Santiago from Puerto Rico. Next Juan Jonelvi Medina, in the 54kg category (119lbs) defeated Byron Tisol of Guatemala.

Cuban boxer Yosvany Veitia Soto defeated Mexican Joselito Velasquez in the 48kg category.

The Continental Youth Boxing Championship is being held on 19-24 February. Around 180 competitors from 20 countries are taking part.
