Kenya King, a single mother with one son, is the first recipient in The Miss Teen Diva Pageant Committee’s Fresh Start program. As the Pageant Committee surveyed the community, it was obvious that many teenaged and/or single mothers and fathers are working very hard to make ends meet. With that in mind, the Committee developed Fresh Start 2010 to offer assistance in making things a bit easier for the chosen recipient at the beginning of the year. Donations from several persons from the business community made this program a reality.
Kenya’s Fresh Start included gift certificates for clothing from Every Day Fashion and Royal Shop and shoes from People’s Shoe Store. Kenya was also given an exquisite hair style from Eclipse Hair Salon, a pedicure from McKelly’s Beauty Salon and accessories compliments of Hazem’s Hair Supplies.
Miss Teen Diva 2009, Rashada Robinson, assisted Kenya with choosing her clothing, shoes and accessories for which Kenya was appreciative. Kenya is now ready to step forward – well-dressed and poised for any new challenge.
Of course, a Fresh Start for a single mother would not be complete without groceries and Kenya received gift certificates from Road Town Wholesale Trading Ltd. and Stimulus Mart.
To compliment the groceries, the proprietors of Fashion Trendz donated a new cookware set to Kenya.
The goal of the Miss Teen Diva Pageant, now approaching its fourth year, is to work with young ladies who are well-rounded and have the zest for working in the community. The Committee would like to thank the businesses who supported the program and encourages everyone to tune in to Channel 51 for footage of Fresh Start 2010.
